British Superbike Championship 2019 Odds

bsb superbikesThe British Superbike Championship is the premier road racing superbike championship in the UK. Organized by MotorSport Vision, the BSB was launched in 1988. The championship has 12 races – 11 have 2 rounds each with the final (12th) ending with a three-round “Showdown” that determines the champion. This great feature was added to the BSB as a way of preventing leading riders from running away with the championship earlier.

The BSB is open to superbike racing motorcycles developed by teams such as Ducati, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc.

In the beginning, the bikes used in the championship were following Formula I (750cc) regulations – the Superbike regulations were adopted 5 years later in 1993. Since then, the BSB became the biggest supported British racing championship, with millions of fans following the races. The championship is held on circuits in the UK and Scotland, with only one (TT Assen) held in the Netherlands.

The 2-round weekend starts with two practices on Friday, followed by a third on Saturday and three qualifying rounds. The main events are held on Sunday. The schedule for the Showdown is the same with the exception of the first race taking place after the qualifying rounds on Saturday.

Shane Byrne is the most successful rider in the BSB – the Englishman has won a record 6 titles. Last year, Ducati rider Leon Haslam finally got his hands on the trophy after previously ending a runner-up several times.

Best British Superbike Riders to Bet on

Danny Buchan

danny buchan
Danny Buchan, Kawasaki

Long-time Kawasaki rider has chosen to stay loyal to the Japanese team for this year’s championship as well. Although he doesn’t have a title behind his name, the English rider scored a pair of 3rd-place finishes last year after missing most of the 2017 season. In the end, Buchan finished with 147 points, enough for the 11th spot in the Rider’s Championship.

This year, Buchan is expected to go a few places up. Buchan has the quality to finish higher, so it’s up to Kawasaki to provide him with a top-of-the-line superbike.

Bradley Ray

Bradley Ray is one of the most exciting young riders in the BSB. Still only 21, Ray has already won two races – the opening rounds at Donnington Park last year. He performed well throughout the whole season, ending on the sixth spot and qualifying for the Showdown.

The Suzuki rider has all the tools a winner needs and might even win a title in the future. He might not be the bookie favourite this year but expect Ray to have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Josh Brookes

Former BSB champion (2015) Josh Brookes finished fourth last year, winning a total of three races. He wasn’t even close to eventual champion Haslam, finishing the season fourth. Brookes’ glory days may be gone, but don’t sleep on him. He has quite the experience on his back and is a tough opponent who can win any race.
