Formula 1 USA GP Betting and Odds Preview

Formula 1 USA GP Betting and Odds PreviewThe United States Grand Prix is one of the rare races in the Formula 1 calendar which has been held on and off since the beginning of the twentieth century. In total, the race has taken place 47 times so far at 10 different locations. This year, the race will take place at Circuit of the Americas in Elroy, Texas, and that will be the seventh consecutive rendition of the USA GP to be held at that specific circuit.

Last year, Lewis Hamilton took pole position and then went to use that to maximum effect by winning the race with over a 10 second advantage over second placed Sebastian Vettel and with over 15 seconds ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.

In fact, Lewis Hamilton really seems to fancy the USA Grand Prix as he has won the race a record six times, more than any other driver in the race’s history. If he manages to win it again this year, that will take his tally to seven USA GP triumphs, five of which will have come in the last five years.

Another thing that makes this race so important for Hamilton is the fact that if he manages to win the USA GP for the fifth straight season and Vettel doesn’t finish second, he can clinch the Formula 1 title ahead of schedule and start victory celebrations in Texas.

Will Lewis Hamilton Continue his Winning USA GP Run?

Lewis Hamilton will have the chance to become Formula 1 world champion for the fifth time in his career if he outscores Vettel by 8 points at the USA GP. This is reason enough for the British driver to give his all to continue his winning tradition in Austin, Texas and to try and win at his favourite circuit.

Hamilton started the season slowly, and his first victory came as late as the fourth round in Azerbaijan, but his form has been becoming better and better with every coming race and currently he is on a hot streak of four consecutive victories after coming first in Italy, Singapore, Russia, and Japan.

Hamilton can clinch the title in the USA if he finishes first and Vettel doesn’t finish second. If Hamilton finishes second, Vettel will have to finish fifth or worse for the same scenario to happen and the German is highly unlike to finish out of the podium places.

This is why bookmakers have made Hamilton their clear favourite for victory here and have given him odds of 8/15 (EnergyBet and LV BET) and 10/19 (Fun88, SportPesa, and SetantaBet).

Can Vettel Notch his 6th Victory of the Season?

Sebastian Vettel will probably have to settle for second place in the drivers’ rankings this season, but that doesn’t mean that he will give up and not try to win in the USA. The fact that if his main rival wins and he fails to come second, the championship will practically be over is sure to motivate him even more to try and ruin Hamilton’s victory parade.

The German comes into the race with a 67 point deficit and after a collision with Max Verstappen which cost him and his team quite a lot in the Japanese GP. In addition to this, questions are already being asked about his ability to take Ferrari to a championship victory as he is starting to implode at pretty much the same time as last year. It seems like the German just cannot keep his focus for a full season, even though he is driving arguably the strongest machine.

Vettel will be desperate to prove everyone wrong and if you think that he can win the race, you can get odds of 3 at LV BET and EnergyBet and 59/20 at Fun88, SportPesa and SetantaBet.

Will Valtteri Bottas Continue his Good Form?

Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas

Valterry Bottas has been in good form recently and he has finished second in both Russia and Japan. He and his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton, managed to successfully complete two consecutive one-two victories and currently moral in the Mercedes team is sky high.

And while the spotlight in Texas will be on Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas will also fancy his chances and look for a surprise victory at a time when things are really looking up for 29 year old Finnish Formula 1 driver.

And Bottas is certainly able to win a race as he was clearly on course to win the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi when he let Hamilton go past him so that his teammate can increase his lead ahead of Vettel. One wonders what might happen if Vettel doesn’t finish the race in Texas? Will Hamilton return the favour to his loyal teammate if given the chance?

This possibility and Bottas’ current form has led bookmakers to slash the odds for a Bottas victory at the USA GP and bookmakers such as EnergyBet and LV BET currently give him odds of 7, while Fun88, SportPesa and SetantaBet price him at 7/1.

Kimi Raikkonen Hasn’t Won Since 2013, Can He Do It Now?

Raikkonen has dropped from third to fourth in the standings after failing to reach the podium in the last three races in Singapore, Russia, and Japan where he finished fourth once and twice in the fifth position.

These poor finishes come at a time when it was finally looking like he might be getting into a decent run of form and had a chance to record his first victory since 2013. He finished in the podium positions in five consecutive races starting with the French GP and ending with the Hungarian one, and also managed to finish second in Italy as well.

Now however, it is highly unlikely that the Finnish driver will magically find his form again and bookmakers seem to share that sentiment as they give him odds of 12 (EnergyBet and LV BET) and 11/1 (Fun88, SportPesa and SetantaBet) to win the American Grand Prix.

Can Max Verstappen Be the Dark Horse?

Max Verstappen has been fifth in the standings for a large part of the season as he has found it difficult to break the Mercedes-Ferrari dominance this year. He is one of the rare drivers to have notched a victory this year and not to be called Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel. In fact, together with his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, they are the only other two drivers to have topped the podium in addition to Hamilton and Vettel.

Verstappen finished third in Suzuka, in spite of the fact that he was involved in a collision with Vettel, in which he managed to keep his composure and make the most of a situation in which he wasn’t at fault.

And even though the Dutch driver is the last probable winner of the USA GP, bookmakers don’t seem to rate his chances very highly and feel that in a race in which all eyes will be on Hamilton, it will be impossible for anyone else to triumph. As a result, sports betting operators such as SetantaBet, SportPesa, and Fun88 have given him odds of 16/1 to win, while EnergyBet and LV BET have gone for 16.
